View trail status on a mapSix trails or trail segments are currently listed as closed. This list also preserves known reopening dates and closure durations so the public can compare what happened, what State Parks reported, and what remains unexplained. Holden Mill is listed by section because its upland route reopened while its riverside route remains closed.

The damaged suspension bridge and limited vehicle access across the ford prevent normal access and emergency response. By June 2026, engineering consultation and an erosion report were underway. The superintendent hoped for reopening by the end of 2026, but no committed date was announced.

State Parks tied this closure to the damaged suspension bridge and the inability of staff vehicles to cross the ford. A September 2025 announcement said the area would remain closed until the bridge was repaired. No trail-specific schedule or reassessment date was identified.

Holden Mill Trail – Riverside Section
1.2 milesDetailsState Parks reasoning and timeline
The riverside route was damaged by Chantal and is vulnerable to future flooding. Park leadership said it would be rerouted farther from flood-prone areas. No route plan, construction schedule, completion date, or reassessment date was identified.
Trails Forward assessment
Trails Forward founder Adam Stasio traveled the closed section and found it effectively unchanged from before Chantal except for two trees down across the trail. More than a year later, the section remains closed and State Parks has not published the proposed reroute, a work schedule, or a reassessment date.

Pea Creek Trail

HelloEno lists the trail as closed since June 1, 2020. The sources reviewed do not explain the original reason, work completed, remaining obstacles, or decision process.
Trails Forward assessment
Most of the trail is visible from the river via kayak. There is some washout under the Cole Mill bridge, but the trail appears to be fully passable. After 6 years State Parks has still not published the original reason for closing it, the work completed, the obstacles that remain, or any path toward reopening. Public Records Requests show that State Parks have not begun planning the trail reroute.

Dunnagan Trail
DetailsState Parks reasoning and timeline
Closed following Tropical Storm Chantal on July 5, 2025. The park service reported that Dunnagan Trail sustained significant to extreme flood-related damage. Several sections have complete tread loss from washouts and bank undercutting, requiring upland reroutes. In some cases, fallen trees and debris piles can be left in place to discourage use of damaged sections. One sinkhole predating the storm requires attention. Numerous downed trees and branch accumulations along the bluff and old bridge abutment section further reduce safe passage. The trail remains closed until reroutes are completed and major obstructions cleared. (Source "DRAFT-ENRI Post-Chantal Trail Assessment-SL s.pdf page 16")
Trails Forward assessment
Trails Forward founder Adam Stasio ran the entire Dunnagan Trail loop the day after the storm. The tread was effectively intact and unchanged, though muddy and slippery from receding water. Many trees had fallen beside the trail, and five crossed it closely enough that he had to climb over or go around them. State Parks said the trail needed to remain closed until major reroutes were completed. Eight months later, it reopened without those reroutes being built.
